In 1851, Joseph "Dickinson: was living in the house of Mary Ann Carr nee Dickinson. Was he her father? According to the 1851 census, Joseph "Dickinson" was born in Whitchurch Yorkshire but there is no Whitchurch in Yorkshire. There was a Joseph "Dickenson" born in Whitfield Northumberland in 1782 - maybe Whitchurcn and Whitfield were confused? In 1841, a Joseph "Dickenson" was living in the workhouse at Barwick in Elmet. According to her christening record, Mary Ann Dickinson's parents are called Joseph Dickinson and Mary and she was christened in Workington. We can find a Joseph "Dixon" and a Mary Johnston who married in Workington in the year of Mary Ann's birth. I am assuming that Joseph Dixon, Dickinson, and Dickenson are one and the same but not with much confidence. The source for information on Joseph Dickinson, apart from the 1841 and 1851 censuses, was the IGI of the LDS Church.
