From http://www.carr-net.com/caption_grandaddysoghram.htm: Omar removes the leaves from sorghum before sending it through the horse-powered mill which crushes the stalk to remove the sap. He used buckets to collect the sap. From there the sap was dumped into a large heating vat. (If I recall, later in the year, he used the same vat to boil hogs.) As the sap began to a boil everyone chipped in to keep it stirred until it thickened into sorghum molasses. Omar put it in jars, gave some away, and sold the rest. A cold biscuit and some fresh butter always came in handy on days like this.
