from http://www.carr-net.com/sonny.htm Sonny was an original. Always getting a kick out of everything he did, chirping like a bird, and playing his banjo. He could tell you stories all day long about his antics as a youth or his latest trick he'd pulled on one of us. It was all in good humor from this lovable, easy going farmer. Omar Carr, Jr. (Sonny) was the oldest of Omar and Edna's clan. He was born on February 16, 1918 and married Lettie Walters in 1941. They lived in what the family called the Old House from the around 1946 to when he bought an Owen County farm a few miles away in the late fifties. Along with music, he enjoyed building carts. These were one-person, self-powered machines. The advanced models had hand brakes and a 5-gallon lard can that simulated an engine. All models came with iron wheels. It's just a guess, but we believe this photo was taken at the Old House around 55 or 56. Can't remember the name of the dog either. As a deacon at the New Columbus Baptist Church, Sonny coached a softball team in a church league in the early 60s. Among others, the team was made up of his brothers and nephews. Those Owenton, Ky., ball games were something we talked about all week until the next one came along. Our coach died at the age of 67 in 1986.
